Training and Fundraising

Apologies for the radio silence!

Between work, training and organising the fundraiser things have been a little crazy.

With the fundraiser being this weekend, everything is in place for a great evening, we hope to see you there.

There are some amazing auction and raffle prizes including a signed Steven Gerrard shirt, Signed Jamie Carragher Scarf and boxing gloves signed by David Price.

We have already had bids on the auction items so do get in touch if you interested.

So as well as the trip we have been training 5/6 times a week, and I have also enlisted the help of a trainer. I’ve never had a trainer before but I though embarking on the hardest physical challenge of my life, now was as good a time as any!

Even though this guy has pushed me to the point of wanting to vomit, I can’t get enough. I have been training with him for 7 weeks now and am much much stronger, which makes me so happy. I actually might be able to pull this climb lark off 🙂

I’m sure many of you are wondering what the climb consists of, I thought I would attach the link so you can have a nose. Its going to be tough but thankfully we are using a reputable company who will make sure we climb in the safest way possible.

Rustling up some Booty

So after our Tri we got a bit sick so apologies for taking so long to post again! We took 2 weeks off from the gym to try and get over whatever it was we had. Last week we where back with a bang. Although 2 weeks makes a huge difference and I do feel I have to step it up a notch to try and get back to where I was.

So due to a break in exercise I decided to focus my attention on our Charity Fundraiser in May.

This night is to help reach our fundraising target of £5000. Tickets are priced at £10 each with confirmed acts such as Steve Daley (Elton John Tribute), Jamie Somers (Rat Pack, Buble) and Jay Sounds DJ.

Most people who know me will tell you I’m persistent when I’ve got an idea in my head, other may call it annoying, but I prefer persistent. Due to this ‘persistence’ I’ve managed to get some amazing raffle prizes and some very unique auction items too. Prizes range from Local and National businesses to donations from well know and loved celebs. If you haven’t already bagged a ticket then do get in touch soon, as they are selling fast!

We have also had press coverage from the Liverpool Echo, John Moores University and BBC Radio Merseyside!

Echo

Such a lovely surprise as they didn’t confirm they would feature us, was so amazing to receive peoples messages of support. Hopefully this has encouraged more people to get behind our cause and event.

If you own a business and would like to make a donation to our raffle or auction then do please contact me via email – samanthawarham@hotmail.co.uk

Tri, Tri, Triathalon

To make sure we stay on track with training Aaron and I decided to set ourselves smaller challenges throughout the year. The first being a mini triathlon!

The Challenge set : 5k Run, 10k Bike, 3k Row

This word scares the bejesus out of me, I don’t like competitions because I don’t like losing, and I always lose against Aaron……… in everything.

But like a grown up  I decided to take the challenge on and actually do relevant training, instead of my usual strategy of winging it.

So I decided to look up as many training guides as possible, spending hours on the internet looking up kayla Itsines , The Body Coach and Ashy Bines to name a few. I finally decided to use Erin Pugliese, she had a plan dedicated to Cardio which was perfect for my next few weeks training.

We completed our first Challenge on Saturday. I was stupidly nervous, but that could have also been the 2 litres of Pre Workout pumping through my veins. Anyways, we did it!

tri

To say I was happy with these times was an understatement, yes I could have been quicker but that fact I completed the tri was enough for me……and maybe the fact my run was quicker than Aarons ! Go me!

We’ve decided to carry on with out triathlons and just try and improve on our times each time.

Our Next Big Challenge will be our first UK Mountain Climb. All suggestions welcome, but anything close to Leeds would be great as we are in that neck of the woods.

Cheers for reading!

Don’t forget you can donate here www.justgiving.com/s-warham

Witness the Fitness

Today I thought I would blog about my training. To be honest when we first decided to climb Kilimanjaro I decided, in true “me” style to research the ass out if it, I mean proper page 50 of Google kind of research. Anyway, not only did I have to figure out what kit we needed and  what time of year was best to climb, but I also had to get fit.

I like to be prepared, so having read tons of blogs and fitness websites I thought the best place to start was endurance! Turns out I’m not as fit as I thought.

Aaron and I have just relocated to Leeds so one of the first things we did was find a new gym, and we found a goodie! Pure Gym , Kirkstall is just 10 mins from work which is ideal as I lose the momentum to exercise pretty quickly.

So fast forward to now and I’m currently half way through week 5 of training and loving it, I can see improvements in speed, time and endurance on each session, so I’m so chuffed I gave my self plenty of time to prepare for such a big physical challenge.

Like a weirdo I’ve fallen in love with the stair master. Its great for the butt and getting me used to walking up hill, I do this hiit sequence at least twice a week. Try it, I promise you’ll love it . (26mins in total)

Level 7 – 2 mins, Level 9 – 2 mins, Level 11 – 2 mins

Level 9 – 2 mins, Level 7 – 2mins, Level 9 – 2 mins

Level 11 – 2 mins, Level 9 – 2 mins, Level 7 – 2mins

Level 9 – 2 mins, Level 11 – 2 mins.Level 9 – 2 mins

Level 7 – 2mins

As well as training the plans for the Charity Night are well under way. Tickets are now available and lots of generous Raffle prizes are flooding in. We also have a flash Poster which you’ll see dotted around Thornton and Crosby in the next week or so.

So its further than the shops then?

Finally after too many months of discussions and planning Aaron and I have run out of reasonable excuses and have decided to go on, what is shaping up to be a very, very long stroll. In case it isnt immediately clear we’re following in the hallowed footsteps of former Radio 1 DJ’s and struggling pop stars by popping up Kilimanjaro.

It was such a relief to be able to finally share our plans with everyone and get on with the fundraising.

Before I start irritating you all with my enthusiasm and excitement, I just want to let everyone know that we will be covering the full cost of the trip and the climb. I don’t want people to think they are donating to a holiday, as this will be anything but relaxing, trust me! Please be reassured that every penny all your donations will go to the Charity and not to any part of the trip.

Now all that’s out the way here’s to the fun part – FUNDRAISING!

This is an area completely new to me and other than selling a few cakes for Children in Need at School, I really have no idea what I’m doing. Luckily for me I have a very experienced and amazing fundraiser in the family. Julie Lawson, come on down!

What a wonderful woman she is, hours after I had announced the climb she had donated and offered her services to organise a Charity night to help us hit our target of £5k.

And here it is https://www.facebook.com/events/1530272970606327/

As well as organising our Charity Night this week we also have confirmation of our very first Corporate Sponsor..exciting! We are over the moon that the lovely people at CragHoppers have offered to supply us with our kit for our Climb 🙂

Such a great company to be associated with and we are beyond grateful for their generosity. One tentative request for help and they have been nothing but generous and brilliant. They really have got us off to a flying start – thank you.

PS -full fashion show to come once our new stuff arrives – Zoolander wont stand a chance.

WTF I’m climbing a Mountain!

As many of you may already know I love to organise stuff…or schedule fun as some people call it.

Now this may be a little extreme and not much fun to some, but this trip is something I’ve been wanting to plan for a very long time. I’ve somehow managed to persuade the husband to join me too, in his words ‘Someone’s gotta push your fat arse up that Mountain’…He’s so thoughtful!

kili

This whole trip isn’t just an excuse to go on my Jolly’s in Africa, far from it! I want to physically and mentally challenge myself, all in in aid of a wonderful Charity.

Back in June 2000 at the age of 34, my mum suffered a Brain Haemorrhage and Stroke out of the blue.

Without the help, care and support of the wonderful people at The Walton Centre she might not be with us today.

The Walton Centre in Liverpool is a specialist neuroscience hospital treating over 100,000 patients a year with conditions including head and spinal trauma injuries; tumours of the nervous system; epilepsy; multiple sclerosis and motorneurone disease.

The Charity helps support excellence in neuroscience by funding a variety of projects at the hospital which help improve patient care and services.  These include innovative equipment; research; as well as improved facilities for patients and families.  It also supports staff with enhanced training opportunities to ensure they remain at the centre of clinical and research developments.

My Mum turns 50 this year and as well as celebrating I want to mark the occasion with this trip.

mum

All the money donated will go to The Walton Centre so they can continue their amazing work.

Without them, my Mum wouldn’t be the outspoken, confident, funny and bonkers woman she is today and for that I can’t  thank them enough!

I’ve decided to start a blog so I can let people know how my training is going, events to raise money, sponsors I have on board. All the wonderful stuff that goes along with planning such an epic trek.

So my next post won’t be until Training Day 1 in the New Year!

In the meantime if you would like to donate please visit:  www.justgiving.com/s-warham

Thanks a bunch
